The ubiquitous librarian just posted to his blog about an interesting method of "reference". In his post, he explains that students at Virginia Tech who use one of the popular computer labs on campus have red cups that they can put on top of their computer that means they have a question or need help and the TA or whoever is staffing can come over and help them out and answer their question.

So true! I like the idea (but it's making me sing "Red Solo Cup" with new lyrics about helping students...) Anyway, it's an interesting idea for the second floor. We'd have to be more diligent about taking rounds up there, but if there was some way for students on a computer up there to signal for us to stop by when we are around, I wonder if they would use it. I'm envisioning little flags they can put up, like a mailbox! Something to think about.
Then maybe using an ipad or tablet for reference would be something we could really try out!
